Brand awareness can be difficult for any small business, since it’s something that can be hard to measure and often easily pushed to the side. But it does serve a purpose when it comes to how your consumers relate and if it’ll benefit them.
A few benefits to keep in mind:
- Makes your business appear credible and trustworthy
- Organic marketing; word-of-mouth, AKA referrals
- Generate customer loyalty and repeat business
Do Your Own Marketing
This maybe a challenge for some who aren’t well versed in the world of marketing, but everyone starts at the beginning. There are many good resources you can get for free by doing online courses, networking, and by trial and error. The best starting place is always social media, get in the habit of making a schedule on when to post content to the platforms you are on. Aim for at least once a week and as you get more comfortable increase it to about 3 times a week max. A good social media platform to start would be Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. TikTok is also a very tool to use for a business, but the algorithm is still unknown to most big-name companies, so there will be a lot of trial and error.
Blogging
Writing content regarding your business can make anyone feel over encumbered. Every small business asks the same question: What do I write about or what problem does my customer have? For this, I would recommend envisioning yourself as the customer and use that to solve a problem they would have. This is a great place to start, but if you are still having trouble coming up with new content. See what your competitors are writing about and write about what you would do differently and why. Side tip, blogging is great for organic SEO for your business, which will increase your search ranking in Google.
Reach Out to Journalists
Here is something many businesses don’t know about. Journalists are a perfect way of getting your company out there without spending any money for advertising. It’s like hitting a home run for your business awareness, and customers may come rushing to you. A website that I use is called Haro. They get you in touch with journalist who are looking for your knowledge and expertise regarding various topics and discussions. After you submit your statement to them, they then will decide who to include in their article.
Native Advertising
Advertising is always the way to go when you really need a boost in awareness for your brand. One form of advertising that works well, even better then Facebook I might add, is called Native ads. Native ads are viewed 53% more than display ads (Facebook), and they have an 18% increase in purchase intent by consumers. To get started using Native ads, you will need a Google Ad Manager account and a bit of advertising know how. I must say Google Ad Manager doesn’t have the best user interface, but it works if you know what you’re doing. I would highly recommend using Native ads for any business, since the numbers don’t lie.
Cold Outreach
The majority of businesses fear cold calling, email, text, etc. There is a term for this called Call Reluctance Syndrome, which is a fear of speaking to someone they don’t know. It affects almost every salesperson and it’s a fear that needs to be overcome if you’re in the business of selling. Let’s face it, your business is more likely going to fail if you’re afraid of speaking to a stranger. Since my business deals with a service, cold emailing is the way to go. Creating emails designed specifically for each business I want to work with and why my business is worth it for them, is a perfect way to start a relationship. This way I know who I’m working with, what their about, and have already done my research as to why they need my skills.
These brand awareness tips should help your business grow in no time. However, lacking in one of them may hurt your bottom line and cause you to miss out on some good opportunities for your business. Stay consistent and if you need additional help, don’t let fear stop you from reaching out to me for assistance. I don’t charge for advice; I enjoy seeing other companies grow and succeed.
